The Muecke was a virus infected AI, which caused a lot of trouble.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Muecke was a Mosquito class Scout of 300 displacement tons, designed for long range operation behind Imperial borders. The basic design at tech level F was armed with a small 400 megajoule particle accelerator, two 750 megajoule and two 150 megajoule lasers, two large missile bays with auto launchers, two sandcasters and a small meson screen. The Mosquito class is able to jump 4 parsecs with a preparation between 5 and 20 minutes. The most notable feature of this class was its tech level G mainframes from Platon (world) and a CABAl device to control a crew of 12 humans while crossing the Empress Wave.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Infection: The remaining Mosquitos were still serving with Strephon's scout fleet outside Gushemege when the AI virus arrived. Virus had a profound effect on the Mosquitos, because of their highly advanced neural net processing systems. Virus attained sentience within a matter of minutes. But unlike other infected ships where the computer simply self-destructed, they became schizophrenic trying to fight the motivation to suicide.

Muecke had been near Core, just finishing the mission to pick up Silviana Novalis. So Muecke was infected by one of the early suicide inducer strains. But Muecke was something of a special case, used as a science reference repository by Strephon. She simply shut down all unnecessary ship systems, including life support, off-lined its command interface and turned inward upon herself and began contemplating the nature of life and death and attempted to puzzle out her own unique place within the universe. Over a period of several weeks she lay there dormant trying to understand how it was that she came to be and how she could find some kind of inner peace.

Doomslayer Fleet[edit]

This Mosquito eventually found some kind of resolution to these questions and reactivated itself. The General Muecke, as she became to be known, had been the driving force behind a large number of vampire fleets operating throughout the ex-Imperium. When Muecke first reactivated herself she set about reinfecting a number of local vampires to continue the war against Lucan. These ships were infected with a new, highly modified strain of virus.

Unfortunately due to the differences in basic computer architecture these ships where not acting as intended as a new fleet under Stephen's command, but began attacking everything uninfected in sight and moved tailward to smash away what was left in the Core sector.

Empire of Last Sane[edit]

Appalled by the ensuing devastation, Muecke began to rethink her goals. She designed a new strain to reinfect small ships of her doomslayer fleet. This parent strain was evolved from the task of puppeteering that she used to control the fleet. She left the doomslayer fleet and collected a new fleet of trade ships, calling themselves the Empire of Last Sane. The goal of this fleet was based on the knowledge that a war would only destroy everything, and that a civilisation of awakened computers could only sustain itself if they traded and worked together with humans. The Empire of Last Sane reached Usdiki in 1138 and Muecke's knowledge of JumpStart caches enabled Rurevayn to get a head start into the new era.

Disarmament Movement[edit]

Rurevayn was still in danger of vampires running mad. The so-called disarmament movement of the Last Sane was a full scale war, to reinfect computer systems with a parent strain or to disable them by force.

The goal of the disarmament movement was:

  • Disabling of any nuclear missile.
  • Disabling of any virus hosted on dynamical linked systems, as those are unable to host the parent strain.
  • Disabling of any warship larger than 999 displacement tons, or reconfiguration into a civilian ship.
  • Disabling of any ship failing body swap protocol while enforcing quarantine.

Old Empire Guard Fleet[edit]

The Empire of Last Sane could be considered the government of Rurevayn during the short period of the disarmament movement. But this government of Rurevayn evolved into the Moot of Ports ruling the Federated Domain of Rurevayn. Those ships who survived the disarmament movement are now called the old empire guard fleet, to point to the fact that they have to keep the memories of the 3rd Imperium fleet's glory.
