Aarani was the language of the old Aakhri Empire (or Slaver Empire), and although it is still widely spoken in its home region, most people there prefer to use Galanglic or Vilani when in polite company.

Description[edit]

Aarani dates to the Long Night, when the collapsing Rule of Man (Second Imperium) left Vilani and Solomani linguistic influences on many now-isolated worlds. Aarani is related particularly to Old High Vilani, and includes many Vilani words and phrases. Those fluent in Modern Vilani often find that they can communicate, albeit with some difficulty, among native Aarani speakers.

Aarani often uses Chinese pronunciation for Vilani words, e.g. the Aakhri High Family, Luii'khen, became Lui Ch'en in Aarani. The Aarani pronounciation survives in the way that many non-Vilani inhabitants of Dagudashaag Sector pronounce (and write) Vilani words.

Examples[edit]

I chu'shi shacukuan chula'shir asii -- from Vilani Isazii shagukarun gulashbir asi: “Only inferior rulers must prove their superiority”.

  • Aakhri: "Noble of spirit"

Trivia[edit]

Some of the greatest works of Aakhri Calligraphy still in existence are found on Silk, in the Throne Room of the Regal Palace of the Lui Ch'en.
