The A-10 Fearsome class VTOL Ground Attack Plane is a combatant Aircraft.
- It is a military vehicle and a Ground Attack Craft.
- It was commissioned and designed for Teddy's Terror.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
A-10 Fearsome class VTOL Ground Attack Plane (TECH LEVEL 10) used by a mercenary Huscarls battalion called Teddy's Terror: The vehicle has a crew of 1, a pilot in an armored complex cockpit, with simple controls in a fast subsonic VTOL airframe. It can carry six 250kg iron bombs on a single bomb rack. It carries a stabilized laser rifle and four 50kg capacity launch rails for homing TAC missiles for air to air or air to ground targets. The star of the show is the Fearsome 7 barreled, hyper-velocity, electric action 30mm autocannon with TL–10 direct fire control in the nose to shred enemy tanks.
Basic Vehicle Characteristics[edit]
- Vehicle volume: loaded combat ready 660m3, with wings removed for transport loaded 220m3.
- Total mass: empty: 11 tons loaded: 12.5 tons.
- Production Cost: Cr. 746,282.05
- Movement:
- Empty Maximum 800kph/666cm, Cruise 600kph/500cm, NOE 140kph/117cm, Minimum 0kph/0cm.
- Loaded Maximum 700kph/583cm, Cruise 525kph/437cm.
- Movement effect on fire: None
- Damage Points: 110, 125
- Agility: Empty: 8 Loaded: 7
- Turns: 45o, Loaded: 41o
- Equipment: map box with GPS, TL–10 avionics, full weapons stabilization, thermal vision and a 5,000 power radio.
- Power: The fast subsonic VTOL airframe mounts 0.3MW basic turbofan engines producing 9 tons of thrust and consuming 630 liters of fuel per hour, internal fuel capacity 1,744.2 liters, enough for 2.7 hours. Thrust to weight produce 0.73G's empty and 0.63G's loaded. Range: loaded 1,453km one-way on internal fuel.
- Weapons:
- Seven Barreled, Hyper Velocity, Electric Action 3cm Autocannon: Has +1 signature, and can engage 16 targets per fire phase in a direct fire role. It has TL–10 direct fire control. It features full weapon stabilization for accurate fire on the move. The weapon has a ROF 320/phase. The rounds mass 0.8kg each and there is storage for 6,400 rounds on board, enough for 20 fire phases in a direct fire role. A full load of KEAP is provided.
- Direct Fire Characteristics: Direct Fire Characteristics: Seven Barreled, Hyper Velocity, Electric Action 3cm Autocannon
- Effective Range: 3km(26)+6 w/KEAP
- Long Range: 4km(24)+5
- Extreme Range: 5.5km(22)+2
- There is a stabilized air-cooled laser rifle in a ventral targeting pod under the nose. This laser can be used for target designating the cluster bomb. It can engage a single target, and has a battery for 100 shots. Its direct fire characteristics are:
- Effective Long Extreme
- 18(9) 36(4) 180(1)
- There is a bomb rack under the fuselage. The typical load is (6) 250kg iron bombs with 30cm HE 36/6/5 warheads (+1.5 tons payload). They cost Cr 750 each and six are included in the plane's price.
- There are four under wing 50kg capacity TAC missile launch rails. There is no on-board guidance provided. The missiles have a homing guidance package. They mount 18cm HE 27/4/4 warheads, well suited for the air-to-air role, but less than ideal for anti-tank work. The missiles cost Cr349 each and have a 54km range and a +10DM for hyper velocity intercepts. Four missiles are included in the price.
- Maintenance:
- Vehicle: 12
- Electronics: 13
- Weapons: 14
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
These planes are designed for close air support. The VTOL airframe affords them a great battlefield flexibility. An initial order of three custom proto-type A-10 Fearsome class VTOL Ground Attack Planes planes was made. They first saw combat in her inaugural mercenary ticket for use on Aramanx/Aramis (Spinward Marches 3005). These were designed for a mercenary Dream Ticket, to be built with money provided upfront by Sternmetal Horizons an interested megacorporation. The total unit budget was MCr30. They are envisioned to be barebones, the minimum plane at the lowest price. It has an advantage of its VTOL maneuverability to elude more conventional interceptors sent against it. With their avionics package they can fly in a low profile nape of earth attack mode. Skilled forward observers are required to coordinate these planes for close air support.
