Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Tarkaan has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

  • The tainted atmosphere tends to make visitors ill but is harmless to those born here.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Tarkaan has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Hochiken People's Assembly would like to use Tarkaan (and neighboring Orcana) to create a Jump-2 route between the two halves of the their empire.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Tarkaan has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Tarkaan has a population of 7,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).

World Demographics[edit]

The only thing the people of Tarkaan hate more than outside overlords seems to be one another; there are dozens of small states and most seem hostile to everyone else. The nations of Tarkaan make use of foreign mercenaries and trade for weapons, but are notoriously impolite and unwelcoming about it.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Tarkaan possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Tarkaan has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

World Law (L)[edit]

Tarkaan has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

Economy[edit]

The fragmentation of Tarkaan means that despite a good technological base and a high population the world is economically unimportant. Industrial output and interstellar trade income are largely swallowed up by militarisation or expended in financing wars.
