Khimkaa is a moderate-population world, with too many sophonts to be an agricultural world but not enough to be an industrial world. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Bolivar Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Khimkaa, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of an Imperial knight (the Imperial representative to the world) and a baronet, and the fiefdoms of a marquis and a viscount. All four are members of the Imperial Landed Nobility who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level. During the Long Night this world was named Kaen.

Point of Interest: Advanced Weather-control System

An advanced weather-control system ensures that there is plenty of daylight for solar power generation and storage systems and that there is two hours of precipitation before sunset. This rainfall is timed to allow the air and ground to cool before the Khimkaans leave their air-conditioned homes.

History and Background

So efficient is the Khimkaa weather control system that it has been patented and is marketed throughout the Third Imperium. Many view a Khimkaa control system as a mark of quality and reliability, though the Khimkaa insist on a 100-year annual maintenance contract with every prospective client prior to installation. The cost of a complete annual overhaul has almost doubled the cost of a Khimkaa system and made their competitors seem relatively cheap since they only insist on a ten-year overhaul. Despite this, Khimkaa systems are in high demand and they are currently running a 12-year waiting list for installation. Their real wealth does not come from the installation of weather systems but from the maintenance contracts which, although franchised out, are always overseen by a Khimkaa coordinator.

World Starport (St)

Khimkaa has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Urbanization

Khimkaa orbits a cool, red star and the dense CO₂ atmosphere of the planet ensures temperatures here regularly reach 45°C, thus the society has become mainly nocturnal. They are also evenly spread across the planet, with no more than 100,000 in the five largest cities.
