Imperial Monarchist Movement

The Imperial Monarchist Movement is a political organization in the Third Imperium, dating as far back as the Civil War era, composed of supporters of the hereditary interstellar monarchy on the Iridium Throne. The movement generally falls to a greater or lesser degree within the Conservative wing of the spectrum of Imperial politics and ideology.

Description (Specifications)

Members of the Imperial Monarchist Movement are represented within the Imperial Moot by Imperial Nobles aligned with the Moot Monarchist Bloc, who are unified in their opposition to turning the Imperium into a type of Imperial Republic in which the traditional Hereditary Monarchy would notionally be replaced by either an Elected Monarch or an Elected Oligarchy acting as a type of Executive Council as Imperial Head of State. Not only does the Monarchist Movement want rule by a hereditary monarch, but it also wants the ruling Emperor or Empress to be entitled to rule for life.

Parliamentary Monarchists

Within the Imperial Monarchist Bloc of the Moot is a minority faction of more moderate and somewhat progressive conservative members who wish to retain the monarchy as is, but who nevertheless have some common cause with certain factions of the Imperial Republicans who wish to expand the Powers of the Moot by granting it some measure of actual legal legislative authority subject to Imperial veto power, rather than merely acting as a deliberative and advisory body to the Emperor. These members of the Monarchist Movement are known as Parliamentary Monarchists.

History & Background (Dossier)

The Imperial Monarchist Movement looks back to the founding of the Third Imperium and the form of its establishment by Cleon I. The establishment of the extraordinary expedient of the "Right of Assassination" to deal with the problem of Cleon III as well as the later failure of a clear succession of both the Lentuli and Zhunastu family lines during the antebellum period led to the subsequent precedent of the choice of Non-dynastic Emperors by Moot ratification or confirmation of claimants as a standard practice in the period leading up to the events of the Imperial Civil War. The turmoil of this period and its sense that anyone of sufficient noble standing and ambition could potentially seize the throne with the right connections in the Moot or in the military led many to long for the days of the founding of the Imperium and the dignity to be found in its established precedents and laws of inheritance as to who had the right to wield "imperium" and ascend the Iridium Throne.

The Imperial Monarchist Movement in general and the associated Moot Monarchist Bloc within the modern Imperial Moot recalls the turmoil of this period and the reestablishment of order and stability by the current dynasty, the Alkhalikois, and thus finds itself in opposition to the Imperial Republican Faction of the Moot which seeks to transform the Imperium into an Interstellar Imperial Republic after the manner that the Imperium was evolving into prior to the Civil War, but by creating stability thru clearly defining its institutions and procedures via constitutional documents outlining its operation.

During the reign of Emperor Strephon, the Imperial Monarchist Movement staunchly supports the Alkhalikoi family dynasty.
