History & Background (Dossier)

For Humans, and Vargr, it is one of the most potent addictive drugs known.

  • A 10-gram dose, taken by chewing the leaves, gives the user a powerful sense of euphoria and giddiness for eight to fourteen hours.
  • The drug interferes with the judgment, cognitive abilities, and reaction time of the user.
  • The drug is physically addicting, with the withdrawal symptoms and cravings suddenly emerging days or weeks after the last consumption.

Highleaf is illegal on most worlds in the Third Imperium, and usually unobtainable.

  • In the Two Thousand Worlds, !!xug'k is perfectly legal, not particularly expensive (Cr25 to Cr50 per kilogram), and easy to obtain.
  • Human and Vargr smugglers often slip into K'kree space to import the drug.

Travellers' Aid Society Advisory

The Travellers' Aid Society (TAS) provides no advisory for the highleaf plant, which provides little to no threat to the vast majority of sophont species. However, the TAS strongly recommends caution when using processed or narcotic versions of highleaf, which are highly addictive and can provoke a wide variety of deleterious physiological symptoms including migraines, diarrhea and skin irritation when taken in high doses.
