System data
Basilisk, the system primary, is an intensely luminous white supergiant star that can be seen all across the greater Empty Stars region. It is a classical Cepheid Variable and like all stars of its class it displays a degree of photometric variability, varying in both diameter and temperature and producing changes in brightness with a well-defined stable period and amplitude. Basilisk pulsates over a regular 27-day period, changing both its diameter and its brightness by approximately 20%.
Basilisk retains a family of three companion stars lying at a mean separation of 5100 AU. The primary of this group is Ajagar, an orange giant star: it is orbited by an inner orange main sequence companion and an outer brown dwarf companion. Ajagar and its family of suns are orbited by three gas giant worlds. It is likely that the Deep Sky Program has also detected the presence of smaller rocky bodies within the system, though information regarding them has not been published.
