An element in the Mythology of Lon Beon.
The Brain Ticks are a fictional Sophont species; the underlings of the Thrax and the main denizens of the Empire of Thrax.
Description / Specifications
Brain Ticks are the henchmen and servants of the Thrax, the villains in the popular entertainment series Infinitys Shore.
Brain Ticks are relatively small, typically the size of a fist, and with rudimentary or childlike intelligence when separated from a host. They attach to a host organism and hijack them, paralysing them and over the course of a few hours physically assimilating themselves into their victims body. They take over their victims' neurological functions, gaining the benefit of their intellect and access to some of their memories.
The host body can only accommodate a Brain Tick for a limited period of time. When that time is up, the body rejects the tick, which typically tears its way out of the victim. The Brain Tick can also be surgically removed. If the host is killed the Brain Tick will attempt to escape from the body. If the Brain Tick is killed but the host somehow survives, they generally suffer from psychological issues
Some powerful psions are able to host a Brain Tick but retain control of their mental faculties.
History & Background / Dossier
Brain Ticks are provided with unwilling hosts by the Thrax.
Many Infinitys Shore stories feature Brain Ticks infiltrating Lon Beon inside a known character. An entire story cycle surrounds a plot by Brain Ticks to take over the High Command of Lon Beon.
