The Breaker
A Jump Shoal region located in Magister Sector.
Details / Specifications
The Breaker is is an irregularly shaped region measuring approximately 7 parsecs coreward-rimward by 9 parsecs spinward-trailing and affecting an area of approximately 20 parsecs. Within its general boundaries space-time and jump physics appear to function differently.
The Breaker bears similarities to the Harmal Strange and Unstable Space regions lying within Halcyon and Far Home sectors. The University of Selasia's astrophysical survey programs (and a degree of understanding of the Demon Cluster anomalies) have allowed it to be detected and charted by indirect observations. Studies of The Breaker are ongoing, though no definitive conclusions have yet been reached concerning its nature.
If it does share the same properties as the Demon Cluster anomalies it would likely have the following effects on starships:
- A jump-1 ship will not be able to enter jump space at all in this region; any vessel attempting to do so will suffer drive damage, as well as damage to the physical structure of the vessel.
- A jump-2 capable vessel should be able to enter jump within the shoal. It will function as though performing a jump-2 but will only cover one parsec before being dropped back into normal space. Fuel consumption is normal for the drive.
History
The feature was detected by the University of Selasia Spinward Survey. It became public knowledge following publication of the "Stars of the Rim" Astrographic Survey in 5570AD.
