Rethe is a poor, non-agricultural, high-population desert world, with a billion or more sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • This world has no free-standing water.
  • It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • Despite this world's industrial prowess, it remains poor. Some blame this on the high prices of food, which must be imported. Others blame the nature of a desert world. Whatever the reason, something needs to change in order for this world to prosper.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Regina Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector in the Domain of Deneb.

History & Background (Dossier)

A poor, high-population, non-agricultural world located in the Regina Subsector of the Spinward Marches. Rethe is a desert world best known for its annual Festival. In addition to Rethe Startown, other major settlements on Rethe include Khidabra, Klu City, Ursaka, Gashi, Kanala, Eudukate, Mead, and Usheme.

Non-canon: About a generation ago, Rethe's population experienced a 'baby boom' and began growing explosively. The growth spurt seems to be tapering off now, but in the last 25 years the population has grown by well over six billion. The citizens have been struggling to cope with the population increase, building more orbital habitats and other needed infrastructure, putting a tremendous strain on all space activities. At one point visiting starships could not expect to get any service at all, at least not in a timely manner. Things seems to be improving, and the starport will soon be reclassified to Class D, and may become Class C in a few years; eventually it may get back to its original Class B status.
