: There isn't any physical reason why you couldn't layer armor this way. It's just most of the Traveller rules don't allow it for reasons of making combat simpler. Armor combination[edit]
Can Cloth Personal Armor be worn with combination with other armor pieces? Because CPA is essentially an armored set of clothes what doesn't look like armor, and most types of personal armor is worn over the clothing. Does that mean what you can put armor in addition to CPA, like how it works with Reflec Personal Armor (overall that combination would result in 3-layer armor: reflec under the clothes, then diplo armor what is the clothes, and then whatever armor you want on top — in ideal case, battle dress). --95.71.119.154 08:18, 18 February 2023 (EST)
- There isn't any physical reason why you couldn't layer armor this way. It's just most of the Traveller rules don't allow it for reasons of making combat simpler. I would say you can't wear armor in Battledress because it's supposed to be form fitting to allow feedback from the suit to you. Too many layers blocks that. - I guess what that setup wouldn't harm the Battledress if lower armor layers have some kind of mini-computer system what takes the feedback from body and gives it to next armor layer, sending it through chain of layers to Battledress's computer and then through the chain back to body. Also, personal Neural Shield (TL16) can be put under clothes instead of reflec. Also page about neural shield states: "A neural shield is often a thin suit much like the Combat Environment Suit, that is worn underneath armor.", and Hostile Environment Suit is the same thing as CES but without armor (what you can add in yourself with "Cloth Armor" armor upgrade). So you can put a armored chemical defence suit under power armor, with armored clothes in the middle. If you feeling particulary munchkinish, you could say what different underclothes layers don't interfere with each other, you can wear absurd amount of armor (Hostile Environment Suit + Combat Environment Suit + Neural Shield + Vacc Suit of TL13 or more + Hostile Environment Vacc Suit of TL12 or more + Cloth Personal Armor + Battle Dress; and if you have strange rules-lawyering, you can add Mesh Personal Armor, since chain mail can be worn under armor, and MPA is a future tech chain mail, plus Jack Personal Armor since it's just a tough jacket, and Flak Jacket if it doesn't have webbing and is relatively compact; all that would weight 129 kilos and cost 221000 credits, or 134 and 221450 if you allow add in MPA, JPA and Flak J. without taking off anything). If multiple armor pieces of clothes and under layers are nor allowed, the best combination what doesn't seem too clumbersome or illogical is Combat Environment Suit (or Neural Shield if your tech is very high) + Hostile Environment Vacc Suit TL12+ (it's as light as clothes, so you cam put it as clothes) + Battle Dress + Cloth Personal Armor if it doesn't interfere with vacc suit. I think logically what this is up for both the DM and player to agree on how much and what can be put on in which slots (3 slots: under, clothes and armor; or 5 slots: skin-tight clothes -> under clothes layer -> clothes -> Over clothes like chain mail -> Power armor; and does Mesh Personal Armor, Flak Jacket, Ablat Personal Armor and Jack Personal Armor count as "medium armor" what can be put under heavy armor, as "just armor" what can't, or as miniature armor like chainmail what doesn't take meaningful space between layers). From rules-as-written, the more the better, since "The weight of personal armor and clothing is assumed to be part of the character's clothing load and is not affected by the weight rule", and combat in GURPS is deadly so you need every single damage resistance point you can get — so you should try to put on as many under layers of armor as you can (and the most difficult part of figuring out "how much" is to figure out what items come in which place, and what of them contradict others).
