This followed internal revolts in the Galian Trade League between approximately 300 and 800. The Galian Federation is considerably smaller than the earlier Trade League, having lost systems that now compose, the Plavian League, Trindel Confederacy, Vinyard Concourse, and Mische Conglomerate. Following several regional wars, culminating in the Battle of Coralee in (754) the Treaty of Umbrin (758) was signed establishing the independence of these groups. Since the late 700's the Galian Federation has been involved in numerous disputes and small wars with these neighboring polities over control of nearby unaligned systems.

Gateway (Ga 1220) (world), the asteroid belt capital of the federation, produces a class of TL–11, Gateway Class Heavy Cruiser. They also use a class of fast Buigoon Class Destroyers, in patrol flotillas. The federation uses small Galian Federation Strike Marine Battalions for lightning raids from close orbit over vital targets, to knock out enemy command and control centers.
