Description

Never destined to become a major player in the family in the business or politics, Stuart Powell did so by marriage and military service. Born in 23, he attended Red Hill University, graduating in 45 and (through family influence) gaining a commission into the expanding Touchdown Army. At the time, the Army had a Colonel, a Major, two Captains and three Lieutenants.

By 49, Stuart was a Captain and by By 53 he was a Major, although by this time the force had expanded to over twice the size it had been when he joined. In 55, Stuart was deployed to the cease-fire line between New Heaven and Shelter with the multi-national force agreed by the New Earth Council.

With the coming of peace in 56, Stuart returned to Touchdown and was promoted into the new rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was placed in charge of the 2nd Touchdown Infantry Battalion and made responsible for the over 4000km border between Touchdown and New Heaven. One of the biggest issues was determining where the border actually was as it had been drawn on maps based on satellite images. He was awarded the Bronze Medal in 57 for his actions in resolving an issue over jurisdictions and in which trespassing troops of New Heaven engaged in a firefight with his men. His Platoon Sergeant was awarded the Silver Cross in the same action, the first such medal awarded.

There was no further promotion to be had for some time, but in 61, he was able to become a Colonel attached to the military mission to New Fiji. He returned to Touchdown the following year where he deputised for the General Commander of Touchdowns Ground Forces while he underwent surgery - a role he clearly palyed well as he was subsequently promoted to that rank permanently when the role became free.

As the most senior commander of the Army for Touchdown, he directed that body from 65 until 77. During this time, the army had little fighting, but it was involved in a few further actions along the long and somewhat porus borders.

From 78 onwards, Stuart Powell lived in Touchdown City with his family and acted as a media commentator and government advisor. He died in 103

Family

Major Stuart Powell married Jasime Becker (of the Becker Family) in 56. They had 3 children, and adopted one whose parents had been killed on the Shelter border.
