The Marauder class combat walker is a Walker.

Description (Specifications)

Marauder Combat Walker (TECH LEVEL 12): The elite rebel marine commandos use these two legged walkers for close infantry support down to the squad level. These landmate/mecha scout ahead clearing the way for infantry and calling in artillery strikes. They are designed to be small and easy to transport. The single driver/gunner has an arsenal of weapons available, and can typically only operate one system at one time. The laser rifles are used for target designation and artillery spotting. Most crew members assigned to these vehicles are trained forward observers. The weapons are stabilized but do not require elaborate fire control systems. The vehicle is sealed with life support to deal with NBC/CBR threats. They are equipped with single use ablative reentry shields which must be replaced for each drop. They are equipped with ten cannisters pf prismatic smoke for foiling laser designators but do not have laser sensors. They are equipped with a rocket escape ejection seat. It mounts a stabilized weapon package, with four forward facing PGMP-12 mounts and a pair guarding the back of the vehicle. A bulky single use package TAC missile was strapped to the back of this beast as an afterthought. Originally intended to have starship quality hull metal plating on the chassis front, the protection levels had to be lowered to save weight. A VRF Gauss gun, likewise had to be scrapped to preserve mobility. Designed to resist artillery fragments and man portable small arms, light crew served anti-armor weapons are required to defeat its armor. They are considered an inexpensive disposable vehicle. Because half their volume is dedicated to their bipedal suspension in an effort to keep their ground pressure low, Marauders can go anywhere infantry can go without fear of ever getting stuck in mud, sand, snow, soft earth. The fusion power pack and transmission ensure they can operator in vacuum in a protected forces role if required, albeit for a limited fuel duration.

Vehicle Dimensions:

  • Height: 5m. Width: 2.8 m. Length: 1 m.
  • Total usable volume: 14 m3
  • Total mass loaded: 28.5 metric tons.

Power:

  • 2 megawatt fusion power plant consumes 3 liters of fuel/hour
  • Fuel capacity 47.066 liters, enough for 15.688 hours.
  • Power to weight ratio is 70 and the ground pressure is 8.14 tons/m3.

Weapons:

There is an array of nine, single-use command detonated or proximity triggered 4cm Bee Hive anti-personnel flechettte charges arranged in three batteries, one forward facing on each knee and one on the lower back of the chassis to protect the rear quarter from infantry approach. These charges have a +4 DM to hit, a 150m danger space with 3 penetration. Designed to shred lightly equipped foot mobile infantry, reloads are not normally carried. They can provide a nasty surprise to infantry that stray too close to these monsters.

There are six PGMP-12s in three twin remote turrets arrayed to provide 360 degree weapon coverage. Two forward mounted on each shoulder and one rear firing. The high recoil is fully compensated for in these remote weapon mounts. The guns each have full access to the platform's sensor suite and are equipped with semi-autonomous fire control. They can be set to engage infantry within effective range with minimal operator supervision. The sentinel system can engage up to six different targets, but the weapons have a pronounced signature and are automatically spotted when they fire. Each gun has a compact 40 shot battery.

There are two TL–9 laser rifles, one mounted in each arm and each with a 100 shot battery. Each can engage 1 target and has +0 signature. It can function as a target designator in low power mode.

History & Background (Dossier)

Deployed in groups of eight walkers, these marine vehicles are typically tasked with fire support for elite marine commando operations with special forces operators. They do not excel in sustained, long endurance deployments without extensive technical and logistical support.
