The first comprehensive astrographic and demographic survey of the Imperium, performed by the Imperial Interstellar Scout Service. More than a hundred years in the making, its publication in 420 made available the Imperium's records on its component worlds for public use.
The First Grand Survey was initiated by Empress Porfiria in 300. Imperial Scouts surveying the Julian Protectorate sparked rumors of another war, but this never came to pass: despite the use of armed force by the Star Legion, the Protectorate is surveyed to Class II standards - a fairly detailed IISS level - by the end of the survey.
An ancient Ziru Sirka installation on Mamatava is reconfigured in 399 by the IISS at a storage site for First Survey data: Mamatava herself is renamed Reference (Core 0140).
The 120-year long First Survey is closed out in 420, when the IISS officially publishes their findings.
