General Overview

Pharmaceutical Industry

The pharmaceutical industry discovers, develops, produces, and markets pharmaceutical end products. Recreational pharmaceuticals are considered to fall into Agriculture, Food, and Luxuries.

  • Prescription drugs, based on chemical compounds and prescribed by healthcare professionals. These might include anaesthetics, retrovirals, or antitoxins.
  • OTC (Over The Counter) drugs, based on chemical compounds and freely sold. Typical examples of such products include analgesics, antihistamines and antacids.
  • Vaccines, based on bacteria and viruses
  • Anagathics, Combat drugs Fast and Slow Drugs, and other "exotics"

Healthcare

Healthcare provides goods and services to treat patients. It includes immediate emergency response and long-term treatments and cures. It includes fertility and GenPods. It incorporates caring for individuals with special healthcare needs, as well as cosmetic surgery and personal augmentation. Exotic medicine covers the medical requirements of sophonts of all kinds. Most organisations provide "at point" care, treating the immediate problem, while others offer a whole of life (or cradle to grave) health care. Healthcare also includes operating the necessary facilities, vehicles and equipment.

  • cosmetic or augmentative treatment.

Education and Schooling

Education is the process of imparting or acquiring knowledge and skills, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life. Teaching styles may include tutor-centered learning, interactive learning, or integrated learning.

  • Preschooling (a rudmentary education used to impart social and linguistic abilities to infants)
  • Primary, Secondary and Tertiary education: the basic education provided to most individuals under the age of 18.
  • Special (education provided to those who fall outside of the norms of society, either through disabilities or because of exceptional abilities). Special education may, in some societies, include psionic training.
  • Vocational (knowledge, know-how, skills and/or competences required or provided in particular occupations. It also includes paramilitary and basic military training.
