Description

The performance limit of DeVoss-type drives – the so-called Jump-2 Barrier – tends to restrict interstellar travel to clusters and chains of star systems lying within 6.5 parsecs of one another. While larger gaps can be bridged through the use of long-range or X-range vessels, such craft are inefficient in terms of revenue generated per ton of displacement and are relatively rare.

Those star systems not able to be reached by conventional starships are generally described as Beyond The Fringe.
