Take a look, would this be the "norm" for subsector entries?
One possible thing to add (actually a change to the template) would be to include the subsectors on the diagonal (Rim-trailing, spin-trailing....)
- Sstefan
- I would not have the patience to put in all that ascii artwork. Plus this has the same issue that the map template has, which is that it is too wide unless your screen is 1024x or similar
- The diagonal subsectors would be okay, but to be consistant you would need to carry that up to the sector level, and if this was done as the norm, I don't think you would have space to do so. Dcorrin 13:17, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- I dislike the ASCII art subsector design. It's much too large for the information it presents. If you think the notations for the gas giants and starports are important, I wouldn't be too hard to add them to the name text for the Template: InfoboxSubsector. However adding the diagonal subsector names should be possible, but it is more text to add to each template. Tjoneslo 13:58, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- Rather than be negative about this... I understand why you would like the ASCII map, because you can simply cut and paste from Zhodani Base site (which has a generator for them), rather than the laborous process of entering each one by hand. So I'd make a proposal: If you find a subsector which you feel needs a map, add the ASCII map (because it's easy) so people can see it. But also tag it with a [[Category: Article needs InfoboxSubsector updated]]. This will make it easy for me (or other kind update person) to find and make the article the way the general consensus wants it to be. Tjoneslo 14:31, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
I did try to make the ASCII map smaller by reducing the hex size, but all that has to be done one line at a time (which does end up being a nightmare). If I could figure a way to reduce the font size of the ASCII map then the display shoud fit on most screens. My primary motivation was to show a hex format for the subsector map, rather than try to figure out the half-hex square blocks on the top and bottom of the alternate rows.
That being said... what is the general consensus? It seems the three of us are the ones "driving this bus"... SStefan
- Fix the size by using a div tag with a style="font-size:xx-small". See the updated article. Tjoneslo 20:07, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- I want the infoboxes because they provide a great deal of data to the user, and the ascii hex map may be useful for that, but it should be part of the overall subsector infobox: see Sandbox/InfoboxSubsector for an example of the two integrated. That's using font-size:xx-small. You can get it smaller (using fixed point sizes) but the whole thing disappears into illegibility. So unless and until we can get the ASCII layout to be as small as the table version, I'd like to not use the ASCII version.
- Another option may be imagemaps. The imagemap tag has recently been added to the Wika codebase. Setting up imagemaps more typing than the InfoboxSubsector tables are, but it would allow using really nice looking graphic images for our clicking.Tjoneslo 20:38, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
