Description
Kurdeshu is a world owned by the government of Daas (Dagudashaag 3006). The Daas government acquired their first free trader in 984, and began a colonization effort. A charted survey discovered a rich deposit of lanthanum. A mining colony was established to extract and process the ore. Daas technology, while able to process the ore, was unable to do so safely. A number of severe environmental accidents, and general eco-unfriendly processing practices, released a large quantity photo-reactive chemicals into the thin atmosphere. The thin atmospheric ozone layer degraded to 60% of the previous level. Surface UV exposure is extremely high and dangerous to anyone not wearing appropriate protection.
The lanthanum source was exhausted by 1083 and no other deposits had been discovered. Daas closed the facility, leaving only a skeleton crew to mind the facility. In 1088 Daas decided to reopen the class C starport and the facility as a penal colony for political dissidents. The Soreal company contract to run the prison and provide security in the form of 3 System Defense Boats to watch over the fuel sources and prevent unauthorized landings. There are currently 327 prisoners held in the colony.
