History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Ascendancy Pact labeled Uegna (Knoellighz 1932) D5437DB-0 Lt of Raelas subsector with an Amber Zone warning for the local, primitive society of Stone Age, theocratic zealots xenophobic – yet worshipped by the clergy - of the Sky People. The Sky People recently, (c. 1125 - Hard Times), erected the Rising Promise Temple, (the emptied, D-rated Downport) forbidden by the clergy, whose strange letters were mis-translated by the priest-kings, from the/an Ascendancy Pact Sanctuary, (a refuge for emergency landings).

A 100 Diameters, solar-powered beacon transmits the Amber interdiction to all ships jumping in-system to mine the single planetoid belt of nickel-iron, or refuel in the wild of the single Gas Giant.

The mainworld’s ruling brutes have one valuable secret: the priest-kings speak Arrghoun but cannot write it. The local lay sophont speaks a primitive and illiterate Gvegh taught by the Sky People decades, (as of 1105), ago. Before that time, body language was the communication of choice and might made right. Sophontologists have hypothesized that the world was colonized long ago, but Failed and the throwback survivors used Herbology to fashion the filters needed to breathe the Thin and volcanic-Tainted atmosphere.

The world is technically Failing with a Tech Level deficiency of -2 needed for survival except for the local flora’s natural filtration used by the throwback Vargr here in a ritual fashioning of such filters. Due to the Failing situation, the culture(s) on the surface and cave dens is falling apart and is on the brink of war for survival. Violence comes at ease and Infighting is a skill from birth. The priest-kings outside the Temple allow the lay folk to kill each other or nearby tribes indiscriminately. Travel is also a sure path to death for all travelers are distrusted or slain on sight. Leaving tribal lands for any reason courts death in the wilds by dangerous fauna or at the hands of the next tribe over.

Locals are very lean and wiry Vargr throwbacks that excel at stealth, surprise attacks, Infighting and light spears and thrown javelins are the tools of hunting and war. Their religion is upheld by the secretive teachings of the priest-kings who believe the Sky People are gods descending from the heavens, promising ‘elevation’ from the trials of the world, graduating to divinity fit only for the strongest, cunning and ruthless. Most of these barbarians, even if a lucky priest-king is one of them, taken aboard a starship are quickly sold as slaves at Rriuerak (Knoellighz 1831), called ‘paradise’ if the vessel can lift before being overrun by the nearby tribe(s). This is the result of a failed Law Check while on the surface of Uegna. A barbarian who can speak Arrghoun would be very valuable to linguistic researchers.

The solar primary is a representative symbol of the Sky People, (M-drive thrust and heat). The distant white dwarf star in the system is the realm of the dead waiting for those not 'elevated' by the Sky People.
