The star Theta Tauri (otherwise known as Phaesula) is a double star as seen from Terra; however, the two components (θ¹ or 77 Tauri and θ² or 78 Tauri) are not gravitationally bound and are separated by approximately 1.2pc.
- The stars comprising Theta Tauri are members of the Hyades Cluster.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
θ¹ Tauri is itself a binary star whose primary is a yellow-orange giant star of spectral type K0.
- θ¹ Tauri has a companion (θ¹ Tauri B) averaging 10.3AU from the primary, θ¹ Tauri A.
- θ¹ Tauri B takes 16.3 years to make a complete orbit, a notable eccentricity taking it from 16AU at apastron to 4.4AU at periastron.
- The θ¹ Tauri star system is approximately 47.3pc from Terra, and is located in a Spinrimward/Rimward direction from Terra at bearing 180.3o Galactic Longitude and -22.0o South Galactic Latitude.
θ² Tauri is itself a binary star whose primary is a blue-white giant star of spectral type A7, and is classified as a Delta Scuti type variable star.
- θ² Tauri has a companion (θ² Tauri B) at least 2AU distant from the primary, θ² Tauri A.
- θ² Tauri B completes an orbit about θ² Tauri A once every 141 days at a mean distance of 0.86AU, varying due to orbital eccentricity.
- The θ² Tauri star system is approximately 46.1pc from Terra, and is located in a Spinrimward/Rimward direction from Terra at bearing 180.3o Galactic Longitude and -22.0o South Galactic Latitude.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
θ² Tauri is the primary star of the world Theta Tauri/Narmada (Aldebaran 1731).
