Simok is a moderate population hellworld, with over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often develop intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
- Despite the odds and harsh living conditions, the population of this planet has blossomed and is expected to continue to grow well into the future.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Tobia Subsector of Trojan Reach Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
Description (Planetology)[edit]
This world is part of the Berg Cluster.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Simok lacks any fossil fuels, limiting local transport.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
After the collapse of the Sindalian Empire, Simok was ruled by the Simokian Pharaohs, the products of a centuries-long breeding program that resulted in Pharaohs who were considered nearly-perfect specimens of humanity.
The over two-thousand year old dynasty is threatened to become undone by a dispute between the last Pharaoh and other nobles over the royal consort. The resulting civil war quickly escalated to the use of atomic weapons.
- Both sides in the civil war brought in offworld mercenaries, while the Imperium responded to the use of atomics by deploying marines to pacify the region around the starport and restore order.
- Today, war continues to rage across Simok. Only political pressure from the megacorporations and the Tobia dukedom have kept Simok from being classified as a Red travel zone.
- The local nobles are said to be so indebted to their offworld allies that if they win, Simok will simply become a pawn of another world.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Simok has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Simok has a population of 700,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).
World Government (G)[edit]
Simok is governed by a Charismatic Oligarchy, like a charismatic dictatorship in that a larger group has asserted their right to rule. The group will likely have better rules of succession than a single dictator and may last longer, or may transition to a non-charismatic dictatorship.
World Law Level (L)[edit]
Simok has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A world with this law level may be an Amber Zone or a Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. Travel documents are frequently checked. There is no legal concept of privacy (save for those who can claim necessity for official government business). The police are free to inspect anyone and anything at any time.
World Technology Level (TL)[edit]
Simok possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
