Shigniid Dia Ugkin
A branch of the Ziru Sirka armed forces. The Shigniid Dia Ugkin, also known by the Anglic translation "Legion of the Frontier", was what conventional Solomani military experts might call a combination of special forces and a penal battalion.
Description / Specifications[edit]
The Shigniid Dia Ugkin was the wild card in the otherwise predictable Vilani armed forces. Made up of subject-race troopers, malcontents, and outright criminals, it could be considered a cross between a penal battalion and the French Foreign Legion.
The Shigniid Dia Ugkin was composed solely of assault troops.
Mission (Goals)[edit]
Diduma inshaiirshurla aipgia ginagkhuuirkake kakiiinkhish khiikishela ad.
-- ("We have come here to die, and only the gods and officers know when that will happen.")
Doctrine & Strategy (Operations)[edit]
Many of the Legion's recruits were accepted directly from prisons, or were given a choice between service and prison when convicted of crimes. Others were encouraged to join by families who wished to hide a "black sheep". The legion's officer ranks were a convenient dumping ground for junior officers who failed to conform to the Vilani way. This resulted in the Shigniid Dia Ugkin being, by far, the most versatile force in the Vilani Imperial Army. It was on par with a good Terran unit with regard to innovation and tactical flexibility.
One unifying factor in the Legion was its love of bladed weapons, from the kiikag (a dagger with a brass knuckle-like guard) to the khapsish (a heavy, cutlass-like blade).
