Quill's Nebula is a reflection nebula located almost entirely within the rimward-trailing quadrant of Ruthless Veil Sector.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Quill's nebula is a large group of bright nebulae and dark clouds measuring around 21 parsecs coreward-rimward by 16 parsecs spinward-trailing.

Composition[edit]

It is classified as a reflection nebula and is primarily formed of ionized gases, thrown off by giant stars many millennia ago.

  • The gases consist of about 90% molecular hydrogen (H2), with the remainder made up of varying concentrations of helium (He), oxygen (O2), nitrogen (N2), and other elements. The clouds have a mean density of 102–106 particles/cm³.

The densest parts of the nebula, with concentrations of particles in excess of a million per cm³, are called molecular cores. The quantities of dust and ionized gases within a core is sufficient to block light from background stars so that it appears as a darker region within the nebula. Cores can range in size from a few thousand AU in diameter to many light-years across.
