Nushilii are small, filter feeding reducers from the water world of Tutrii (Dagudashaag 3239).

Physiology and Ecology[edit]

These creatures are composed of gelatin-based substances and exist in a multitude of shapes.

Life Cycle & Reproduction[edit]

It is unknown how these creatures reproduce. Studies have been suggested, but not yet conducted.

Diet and Trophics[edit]

The Nushilii feed on the microscopic lifeforms of Tutrii's ocean, which pass through numerous openings that dot the expanded umbrella. These openings filter the micro-organisms out, passing them into the gut to be digested. The water is expelled out through rear openings, propelling the creature forward as it travels through its food. This means of propulsion can be used when the Nushilii is not feeding enabling it to travel at great speeds over short distances.

As the seas of Tutrii are rich in soluble forms of lanthanum and other rare-earth metals, the native life forms tend to accumulate high proportions of these compounds as part of their natural metabolism. The Nushilii are near the top of the food chain (there are a few species of larger carnivore that feed on the Nushilii) and build up the largest percentage of rare-earths of all the Tutrii aquatic life forms.

History and Background[edit]

It has been proposed that the Nushilii could be harvested and processed as a cheap means of obtaining lanthanum. Harvesting could be achieved through farm fishing or conventional trawling. One helpful aspect of the Nushilii behavior is that the creatures tend to inhabit the warm upper layers of water in huge shoals.

One interesting aspect of this behavior is at twilight and early hours of the evening the seas can be seen to glow with a pale blue light. It appears the lanthanum in the bodies is excited by exposure to the primary. This phenomenon lasts for a few hours until the energy is dissipated.

The famous xeno-biologist Professor Lima Desta remarked upon the many similarities between this species and the Moses David. While suggesting the two creatures share a common ancestor, no work has been done to substantiate that claim.

Travellers' Aid Society Advisory[edit]

The Travellers' Aid Society (TAS) classifies the Nushilii as non-threatening to most sophonts and makes no special advisory regarding this creature.
