A social role within the Luriani culture.

Nuntarri are a product of social pressures in Luriani society that sometimes prevent couples forming official relationships. They first emerged in the highly stratified First Protectorate when matches between social classes were discouraged. They disappeared during the Long Night as the social structure flattened, but resurfaced during the Second Protectorate with increasing pressures on Mmarislusant -- the biological Vilani segment of Luriani society -- to marry true (prompted by their declining numbers).

One of the features of Luriani society most frequently misrepresented in the wider Imperium, the nuntarri are portrayed, in Solomani terms, as the classic "femme fatale", engaged in cunning intricate political manoeuvring, seducing their lover's rivals only to dispatch them. In reality, male nuntarri are as common as female and nuntarri are no more likely to be involved in political machinations than anyone else.

The popular image of the nuntarri comes partly from a handful of individuals who were famous for their politicking, and the fact that virtually the only time an individual would be singled out as nuntarri is at a formal occasion.
