Meranto

A common language of the Distant Fringe.

Description

The language of the Pel Avena cluster and those systems surrounding it. It is the main spoken language of the Rimward Federation.

History & Background

Meranto is derived from the Fleet Anglic spoken by the First Confederation and the Last Armada but evolved during Dark Age to effectively become a new tongue. While Meranto has billions of speakers, it is not widely spoken outside of the Pel Avena cluster – many native Meranto speakers are also fluent in Anglish. The name comes from Merant (1427 Far Home), which has a high concentration of native speakers.
