Mark Lucas is a Traveller author, contributor, and fan.

Description (Biography)[edit]

Mark was born in Sheffield (UK), some six years before the release of the first edition of Traveller. Growing up he happily consumed science fiction media: 2000AD (comic) Star Trek, Space1999. However, with the release of Star Wars, science fiction and genre stuff became an obsession. He was considered "Star Wars mad" by some of his peers, many of whom would dress up in costumes on a Saturday morning, then go out and scream at some men kicking a ball around. Editor(Mark): I don't think I was the mad one. Although Mark had an interest in science and engineering, he struggled with maths and decided to pivot towards art and design after his A-Levels. Inspired in no small part by Star Wars production designers, Mark studied Industrial Design at Sheffield Hallam University. It was solid training for someone interested in designing starships, but Mark wasn't hungry enough to move to London and try to find an internship at a design company that probably designed more hair dryers than space vessels.

At the time of writing, Mark is a technical author for a software company that creates data replication and migration applications. He continues to write and illustrate for Traveller. He has two in-development Cepheus Traveller offshoot games: Orbital Elements - a near future solar system-based hard SF role play game, inspired by his youngest child's sudden obession with rockets and space. He's since started to create a second game, collaborating with his oldest child on a far future swashbuckling adventure game called Galactic Star Alliance.
