Description (Specifications)[edit]

Despite their fierce reputation, the Imperial Marines have a tradition of Music in the form of the Imperial Marines Regimental Band. Each Imperial Marines Regiment has one band which is mainly used for Imperial Navy and Imperial Marines ceremonials.

Within an Imperial Marines Regimental Band, the conductor is titled Bandmaster and holds the rank of Force Commander while the main administrator is titled the Bandmaster Sergeant and is of rank Senior Master Sergeant. Both are trained musicians.

Members of the Regimental Bands are fully trained Marines and usually take on Logistics roles within the Regiment.

The band of the Marine Guard Regiment is used in many Imperial ceremonials and membership of this Elite band is the aspiration of many.

The bands generally include Brass and Drums and decry the use of electronically enhanced instruments. For somewhat quirky reasons of history, many also include a Piper with a set of Bagpipes. When a unit includes a section of drums or pipers, they will be led by a Drum Major or Pipe Major, respectively, of Master Sergeant rank subordinate to the Bandmaster Sergeant.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The tradition of the Imperial Marines to form a band within each Regiment goes back to time immemorial. Even when no official band establishment has existed, some for of music-making has occurred, generally encouraged by the Regimental Commander.

The quality of the music has always been a matter of pride for the Regiments concerned, and this can be taken to extremes. The Corridor Band War of 814 between two bands at Depot in the Corridor Sector resulted in the death of a Bandsman, court-martial of two entire bands and the re-deployment of the two regiments concerned to separate sectors!

The drums of the band will often be decorated with the full colours of the regiments to which they belong (including battle honours) and are both major works of art in their own right and respected repositories of the Regiment's honour.
