Armoured Cavalry
Armoured Cavalry are troops using armoured vehicles to provide battlefield mobility for screening and reconnaissance purposes
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Cavalry have typically had one of two roles: as shock troops carrying the battle directly to the enemy, or as troops providing screening and reconnaissance to the Army.
Armour has replaced Cavalry as the term for the former of these roles.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
As time has progressed the nature of the vehicles used by Armoured Cavalry has changed. At low technology levels, the role is taken by wheeled or light-tracked vehicles. As technology progresses, these are supported by aerial Drones, VTOL aircraft (including Helicopters and Hovercraft) and finally Grav Vehicles.
These changes of technology mean that Armoured Cavalry has also been called Armoured Grav Cavalry, Armoured Reconnaissance and Heavy Air Cavalry.
The Regency Army tended to refer to these units as Orbital Cavalry.
Imperial Map Symbol for Armoured Cavalry[edit]
![]()
This symbol will usually be combined with the "Lift" mobility symbol when specifically referring to units equipped with Grav Vehicles. When the unit is in Armoured Cars, it will be combined with the "Wheeled" mobility symbol. If shown with no mobility symbol, the use of Tracked Vehicles is implied.
