Five Year Missions
During the First Confederation, while the Last Armada was still being assembled and prepared, ultra-long-range scouting missions were sent into those regions of the Empty Stars to rimward of Terra under the auspices of the Expedition.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Their job was to create detailed astrographic charts, to preposition caches of supplies and equipment, and to determine any potential dangers that lay ahead. Some of these missions travelled nearly 250 parsecs from Terra before returning, and a few of those heroic scouts never returned at all.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The derivation of the name is uncertain – none of the missions were five years long. The data that was gathered was invaluable during the Exodus from Terra but was deliberately destroyed in an act known as Cutting the Ties.
