Era: New Era
Djaelervangk is a garden world with an environment conducive to most sophonts. The system has a population over one billion. It is a member of Wilds in the Antra Subsector of Deneb Sector. 100% of the world's population is the Major Race Vargr.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
This world is part of the Lengighdzuerz Cluster.
Stellar Data[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Graek is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Graek has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Graek has 65-75% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Topography and Geography[edit]
The planet's main continent underwent a major breakup only a few million years ago, and most of its landmasses are within a few hundred miles of each other, separated only by narrow, shallow seas teeming with life.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Graek's population has passed one billion inhabitants; it is the most populated world in the subsector.
Graek is the longest continually-settled high population world in Deneb Sector (not counting species homeworlds). The system was settled around -1840 by Provence Sector immigrants.
The sea is the world's main source for food and income, and shipbuilding is a time-honored major industry.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Graek has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
- Vargr starports reflect the variety of Vargr architecture, with many disparate styles of building, each having their own unique ornamentation and gaudy colour scheme, and all competing for the attention of the onlooker. Emblems for the major shipping lines and port facilities abound.
Urbanization[edit]
Vargr cities are lively and chaotic, full of garish colours and loud noises. Streets are packed and buildings press together. Vehicle traffic is fast and chaotic; the accident rate is low only because of superior Vargr reflexes. Zoning codes are rare, and districts jumble together.
World Government (G)[edit]
Graek is governed by a Charismatic Oligarchy, like a charismatic dictatorship in that a larger group has asserted their right to rule. The group will likely have better rules of succession than a single dictator and may last longer, or may transition to a non-charismatic dictatorship.
World Culture[edit]
Family bonds tend to have greater importance than pack bonds within the Aekhu region. Siblings (sukagrra) often maintain life-long associations, especially when they're littermates (kagrra).
Historical Data[edit]
The tropical climate and bountiful resources seem to have instilled paradise syndrome in the original colonists, who burned their ships and were content with just the primitive beginnings of an industrial society. In contrast to the normal tumult of Vargr society, the world enjoyed unusually stable government and social structures for most of its history. Early on, it established the custom of "sponsoring" disaffected younger Vargr for offworld education or career advancement. This not only eliminated troublesome dissidents and agitators, it created an offworld diaspora of more skilled Vargr that retained their homeworld ties, often sending money or resources that could not be obtained locally.
Historical Data[edit]
The New Era
The Collapse altered the world's fine balance. The loss of offworld contact led to a social breakdown. The ancient elected monarchy was overthrown in a coup in 1148, and fighting broke out between would-be successors. A religious dictatorship, whose name replaced the world's antebellum one, arose in 1155, and they have plunged the world into a nightmare. These Vargr are adherents of a crazy messianic cult that has terrorised its neighbors with often genocidal attacks. These Vargr are increasingly opposed and stymied by the naval forces and primitive aircraft of the Khankael League, which is organized around the remnants of the old Royal Bureaucracy, and whose invocation of the storied past and promises of restoring the order of the ancient regime has rallied a growing part of the local population to its banner. Most fighting is done at sea between coal-burning ironclads and cloth-covered propeller driven zeppelins and aircraft. Direct attacks by troops are eschewed for bombing with incendiaries, chemical gas canisters and primitive biological weaponry.References & Contributors (Sources)[edit]
