Generic Cloth Personal Armor

Cloth Personal Armor Cloth (Cr250; TL–6): A heavy duty body suit tailored from ballistic cloth. [1]

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The fabric absorbs impact energy, distributing the blow over the body of the target and possibly resulting in bruising. Nevertheless, cloth armor is among the best and the most versatile personal armor available. [1]

Personal Armor Characteristics[edit]

Volume: 4.5 liters. Weight: 2.0 kg. Base Price: Cr250.

  • Cloth Personal Armor: An upgraded version of the flak jacket, cloth is a protective suit made from a heavier stock of ballistic cloth. This armor absorbs the impact of a projectile and distributes the blow over the entire area of the suit. It is highly favoured because of its low cost, light weight, and protection against firearms. [2]
  • The jacket provides Class-5 protection against Ballistic Weapons. [3]

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

While this sort of clothing is not suitable for formal use, it does not appear out of place in casual settings, and is not culturally perceived as armor.

Earlier forms of the armor, often known as Padded Personal Armor are considerably bulkier, less wieldy, and uncomfortable. They are generally used in the TL:1-3 and TL:4-6 epochs. [4]

Standard Cloth Personal Armor[edit]

A regular body suit has a mass of about 2.5 kg and costs around Cr100. Piecemeal acquisition such as hunting jacket, brush pants, etc., will double the cost. Military fatigues are usually counted as this type of protection.

Higher technology versions often add layers or coatings to reduce infrared visibility, radar reflectivity, and other sensor evasion characteristics. [5]

Diplo Personal Armor[edit]

There are tailored versions of cloth armor, referred to as diplomatic armor or Diplo Armor, which are designed to look proper in a formal setting. Usually the ballistic cloth tailoring adds about Cr250 to the cost of the suit.

Flak Jacket Personal Armor[edit]

Flack Jacket is a less expensive version of ballistic cloth armor, generally covering only the torso and groin.
