There is some mining in Olympus Belt, but its main source of income is as a transit point for traffic to/from Khakhan (RD 3220) and points to spinward and rimward. The Trading Post is nominally owned by mercantile interests on Khakhan, but as Khakhan is at TL 2 those owners lack the technological knowledge to operate it, and all operations are subcontracted out to Vishnugilii Corporation.
Conditions/Environment[edit]
Olympus Belt is a typical asteroid/planetoid belt, with broadly distributed chunks of varying rocky, metallic, and carbonaceous compositions. None are large enough to hold atmosphere. Some have ice deposits.
Starport and Transport Infrastructure[edit]
The main starport for Olympus Belt is a Class C port located on Ryan's Rock, an irregular 200-km rocky chunk which also serves as informal administrative center of the system. Ryan's Rock has many ice deposits to supply hydrogen and oxygen for use at the starport for unrefined fuel and life-support recharges. The starport's Tech Level of 10 allows many sophisticated repairs and fabrication of needed parts, although it lacks the large drydocks and facilities for annual maintenance or construction of ships.
There is no regularly scheduled shuttle service to other inhabited portions of the system (mines in the belt or on various moons), but shuttles may be chartered or passage may be obtained on a supply run to one of these.
Ryan's Rock also houses the Trading Post to facilitate exchange of goods from Khakhan (RD 3220) with traders from other worlds. Both the starport and the Trading Post were built and maintained with funds from business interests on Khakhan, but due to the lack of technological knowledge among the putative owners (Khakhan is TL 2), all construction, maintenance, and operation of the starport and Trading Post are subcontracted out to Vishnugilii Corporation.
