Irlaggur was one of the first new colonization projects once the Rule of Man had ended the Interstellar Wars and restored peace to the borders of the Ziru Sirka. Although the planetary atmosphere was unbreathable due to volcanic gasses and ash in the air, industrialists from Duurmurze were excited by traces of onnesium, lanthanum, and other rare and useful heavy metals that were found in the initial surveys. Heavy investments were made in mining and refining equipment, and substantial bonuses paid to colonists willing to settle this unpleasant world. The colony prospered for over 1000 years, despite repeated setbacks and losses from the vulcanism and seismic instability that made it a good source for metals.

Then in 3415, a large Reaver force defeated the system's defenses and sacked the colony. The raiders dismantled and stole much valuable equipment and refined ore, promising to return and demanding tribute if the owners of the colony did not want it destroyed. The corporate consortium agreed to pay the demanded protection payments, and considered it another expense of business for the profitable colony. Unfortunately for all concerned, over the next 75 years the Reavers became more and more greedy and continued to raise the required payments, until the consortium decided that it would be cheaper to reinforce the system's defenses and turn the Reavers away. The next small fleet to arrive demanding tribute was utterly destroyed, but then the Reavers returned in greater numbers, again smashed the system defenses, carried away as much of the valuables as they could fit into their ships, then used nuclear missiles to demolish the colony. Some colonists survived by hiding deep in the mines, but the consortium decided to cut its losses and evacuated the survivors in 3496.
