History and Background

Early in the Sacnoth Dominate, it became obvious that the Darrians were not the only work of the Ancients - and that the Maghiz was not the worst that using Ancients technology might bring. Worse may follow. Careful work gathering information and artefacts led the leaders to the conclusion that the war of the Ancients was not, in fact, over and that any renewed outbreak of combat would see local Sophonts destroyed by accident in their millions. Agitation by the group was dismissed as "the ravings of mad-women" and several members were killed under suspicious circumstances. The group, at that time, included Agata - a strong telepath - and thus was able to effectively hide its activities.

Over the years, the group has continued to work hard to maintain the status quo in the Ancients cold-war. Convinced that they are "the bearers of the secret flame" for humanity - and persecuted by the Human authorities and the remaining Ancients, they have struggled on - removing what can be found and destroying those agents that can be destroyed.

There is some evidence that the current group is now in contact with at least one faction in the war and their neutral, "A plague on the lot of you" attitude may have become skewed in favour of one or other side. The IISS Antiquities Group is thus highly suspicious of the activities of this gang and works, quietly, to undermine its goals. That the IISS Antiquities Group may also be corrupted is, however, not beyond all possibility.
