SI-049 "Company Store" Class [[Commercial#GT|Mining Tender] was designed on Inar (Deneb 1213) in 1049, the Sternmetal Horizons "Company Store" class ship serves as home base for 10 Bathysphere Class Prospector's Cutters. Being unstreamlined, it also carries two Bubble Class Fuel Cutters, which can serve double duty if needed.
The SI-049 is normally used as a mobile mining base within a single system. It only uses its nominal jump ability in emergencies, or to change systems (which doesn't happen very often). The shape of the hull and the placement of the cutters allows this ship to operate as a tender while grounded (on an airless moon, for instance), and Sternmetal has grounded SI-049s semi-permanently in several systems to serve as long term bases. Like most Inari designs, the SI-049 is a tail-sitter, with its cutter complement arranged around it like a huge carousel.
While lightly armed, the SI-049 can serve as an auxiliary fighter carrier and mobile system defense base, like the larger Bullfrog Class Fighter Tender. The standardization of Inari 60-ton spherical hulls allows the SI-049 to operate Wart Class Heavy Fighters (which have the same hull as the Bathysphere). The SI-049 is capable of long tours of duty in any system where wilderness fueling is possible, due to its ability to carry supplies for many months, and at half the cost of the Bullfrog, is popular with poorer systems needing home defense squadrons. The listed cost and weight does not include the twelve subcraft.
