Synopsis
A poor, low population hell world world located in the Remnants Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector.
- Giarkhesa is a member of the Imperium.
- During the Long Night this world was named Ginuukansaan.
Description
Giarkhesa is the festival planet of Dagudashaag. Abandoned during the Rule of Man no one found any reason to re-colonize the planet. The world was overseen by Medurma Main StarLines, establishing an automated port on the planetary surface and tapping the small polar ocean for fuel.
Anyone visiting Giarkhesa is warned there are few restrictions, and fewer enforcement mechanisms. Those that exist are to protect life and property.
History & Background
In 924 Mehod Tahban, in itinerant musician, found himself stranded and decided to try and set up an artists colony. Tahban tapped into the X-Boat relay and was able to send an message throughout the sector. In this way he was able to gather thousands of similar minded individuals.
The collective discovered, quite quickly, it lacked the commitment to set up a permanent colony. Instead, the founders set up a permanent floating festival, hosting music, performance art, and other types of artistic endeavors. Giarkhesa has fewer that 250 permanent residents, but may have in excess of 10,000 visitors each year. The latter stay for a few day to a few months before moving on. The main residency remains a temporary shanty time consisting of tents and other temporary buildings, constantly changing and renewed with the visitors.
The main festival is centered around the summer solstice. A giant tumblewood statue is built next to the landing field, and then burns for seven local days. The festival runs, on and off, for half the year. The organizers insist that everyone be a part of the events, and no one is allowed to be merely a spectator.
