A widely known "spacer's myth" of a large asteroid belt composed entirely of onnesium-rich bodies circling a neutron star. A favorite tale of belters, the existence of such a belt may be theoretically possible, but so far has not been found. Common thought is that the Victory Belt is a case of wishful thinking and does not, in fact, exist. If it did exist, however, the prospector lucky enough to find so great a quantity of this extraordinarily rare element would be wealthy indeed.

In general, the scientific community of the Imperium believes the Victory Belt legend to be just that, a legend. However, several important scientists have, over the centuries, sponsored some serious investigations into not only the belt's theoretical possibility, but it's location and possible composition.

A common theory holds that such large quantities of onnesium could only be found in a rapidly orbiting, highly unstable accretion ring at the event horizon of a black hole. Another theory dismissed the possibility of anything resembling an asteroid belt at all, but places the onnesium deposits on or near the surface of the neutron star itself, or as a thin coating on any bodies either strong enough or far enough away from the primary to survive the initial super nova explosion. Remnants of the diamond cores of large gas giants may be coated in such a way.
