The Kline class Battleship was commissioned by the Darrian Navy to serve on the line of battle.
Description / Specifications
They are not the most advanced, they are a technological compromise. They serve in several task forces and planetary squadrons according to the guidelines set forth under the Darrian Navy/Fleet Composition manuals. Their crew includes a couple of marine companies. They have a partially streamlined cylindrical hull fitted with scoops for wilderness refueling but lack the room for refineries, making fuel contaminants a problem over time. They are capable of jump 3 and 3 Gs acceleration. They carry a pair of model 6 fib computers, and less armor than equivalent Sword Worlds Confederation designs like the Joyeuse Class Battleship.
They lack support vehicles and spacecraft. They are incapable of recovering their own marines from the surface of a world without help. Darrian marine units often use Combat armour and Battle Dress when available, which incorporate Grav Belts for that reason. They are dependent on fleet and squadron level support elements and are not deployed for independent operations without fleet auxiliaries. The cargo bay is often used to house some low displacement, marine grav vehicles to assist with these tasks.
History & Background / Dossier
Historically, the thick belts of secondary weapons have been expanded from hard won battlefield experience to fend off Sword World fighter designs. They have fared better with longer range engagements and try to avoid close in, slugging matches. Surprisingly, their modest speed and agility has been sufficient to out maneuver the more ponderous Sword World designs. They have been shown to be incapable of coping with modern Zhodani or imperial ships of the line.
