Ankirst was settled after the Vargr Campaigns to provide a refueling stop for Imperial Navy squadrons operating along the coreward interface. Eventually it became a popular stopover for low jump craft traveling between Khouth and Mikesh. The entire world was owned by a single noble family, the Stanleys, though by the time of the Collapse it had dwindled to a group of forty four individuals gliding on their past laurels.

The Dzarrgh Federate found the world to be resource poor, and did not even bother to garrison the place against its enemies. Traffic passing through the system dropped off significantly, and some members of the family eventually left for the Regency to make a better life for themselves. Virus destroyed the surrounding worlds, but the same lack of traffic that seemed to doom the world to oblivion prevented infection. The starport has deteriorated in the last 70 years, but it can still provide unrefined fuel. The Rose Brotherhood has made a practice of visiting the world once in the while, and the surviving Stanleys are considered de facto members.
