The last survivors of a research complex and its affiliated university on [[Kir (world)]], are killed when the experimental organisms, over run the biological safety protocols and consume the last of the staff, students and faculty.  The planet was left vacant until long after the long night.  Rumors persist of massive asteroid vessels left drifting in the system's planetoid belt, filled with strange alien ecosystems left to mutant and evolved unchecked.  The deep levels of the follow colonial complexes are thought to be home to unusual specimens, the improbable descendants of escaped lab animals.
