Noted for its cheerful culture and influential merchants, the Damlaerites caused a political crisis when they responded to overtures from the Hegemony of Lorean in 933-936. The Damlaer Union defected from the Julian Protectorate to the Hegemony, leading to the Star Legion military debacle known as the Lorean Strikes. In 942, the crisis was resolved when the Protectorate and the Hegemony signed the Treaty of Var-Inaka (restricting naval basing) and the Julian Concord, incorporating the Hegemony into the Julian Protectorate.
