Damlaer Union

A defunct polity. The financially powerful Damlaerite nation, founded in 516, was a member of the Julian Protectorate. Noted for its cheerful culture and influential merchants, the Damlaerites caused a political crisis when they responded to overtures from the Hegemony of Lorean in 933-936. The Damlaer Union defected from the Julian Protectorate to the Hegemony, leading to the Star Legion military debacle known as the Lorean Strikes. In 942, the crisis was resolved when the Protectorate and the Hegemony signed the Treaty of Var-Inaka (restricting naval basing) and the Julian Concord, incorporating the Hegemony into the Julian Protectorate.

The Damlaerites are more than content with the situation, and remain a powerful faction within Protectorate and Hegemony politics.

• 516: Founding of the Damlaer Union.
• 534: The Damlaer Union forcefully annexes Abuish.
• 915: The Lorean Hegemon starts sending emissaries, secretly and publicly, to contact the major leaders of the Union, seeking alliance.
• 933-936: The Damlaer Union defects from the Julian Protectorate to the Hegemony of Lorean, leading to the Lorean Strikes. Failed military action leads to a major political crisis within the Protectorate.
• 942: The Protectorate and the Hegemony formally sign the Treaty of Var-Inaka (restricting naval basing) and the Julian Concord, incorporating the Hegemony into the Julian Protectorate.
  • Damlaer is officially recognised as a Hegemony world.
