Description (Specifications)
Chimera class Armored Fighting Vehicle (TECH LEVEL 12): (Variant A) The elite rebel marine commandos use these behemoth ground vehicles as mobile fire support bases. They can each carry a full marine commando section of 3 crew and 12 dismounts in a sealed environment with life support. This allows them to ignore most NBC/CBR threats. They are delivered to the surface by various fleet support craft like the Jembyra class Recovery Boat or the Talon class Drop Ship. This design serves as the basis for a whole family of variant to fulfill a wide variety of combat and support roles. Chimera feature a moderately sloped frontal chassis armor and the remainder of the surfaces are armored with thick and heavy layers of superdense plating equivalent or superior to starship hull metal. The great mass of this armor resulted in several design trade offs. The proposed suspension was wildly inadequate for the final design's mass and as a result the ground pressure soared. The A variant must be very careful cross country because it will become stuck fast in mud, deep snow and on a d6 3+ roll soft earth or sand will immobilize it. Bridging is impossible and the hull size precludes close quarters combat within cities without severe demolition. The huge fusion power plant results in high road speed but it is cut to half speed cross country. An even larger powerplant was under initial consideration but the required transmission would not fit in the chassis. The remote turret on the chassis deck can carry a variety of weapon systems. Variants for single lens pulse lasers and fusion guns are in the works. Military acquisition and logistics being what they are in the post invasion Percavid Marches the mass driver only has high explosive rounds available. A suite of warhead types were promised and never delivered. The on board fire direction center allows the vehicle to coordinate its own indirect fire missions without higher echelon command and support. The point defense fire control is very expensive but extremely effective.

- Power to weight ratio is 131.5 weapons OFF and 21.37 weapons ON. The ground pressure is 15.2 tons/m3.
Weapons:
There is a 5 cubic meter remote turret on the chassis deck. It mounts an extremely accurate and fully stabilized VRF Gauss Gun with ammo hoppers of 30,000 rounds of 4mm tungsten carbide needles, enough for 23 fire phases, it has a +4 signature, can engage 16 targets and the following direct fire characteristics:
| Effective Range | Long Range | Extreme Range |
| 150m (21) +8 | 300m (19) +6 | 450m (17) +3 |
There is a 12cm hyper-velocity, mass driver mounted in the same remote turret. Both are slaved to the gunner's station. It has an adjusted ROF of 20/phase and can engage two targets in a direct fire mode. This weapon has two complimentary TL–12 fire control systems working in tandem. It rolls 10 dice versus indirect fire missions in its role as a point defense weapon. It is also equipped with indirect fire control. It requires a 40.2MW input. There is on-board storage for 400 ready HE rounds, enough for 20 fire missions. It has no weapon signature and is difficult to spot.
| Effective Range | Long Range | Extreme Range |
| 4.5 km m +2 | 9 km +1 | 18 km +0 |
| Range | Accuracy |
| 18km | (+3) |
| 36km | (-1) |
The weapon requires 10.5 turns to set up for indirect fire missions.
Ammunition: The Ammunition available includes:
| Type | Characteristics | Price |
| HE | (24/3/4) | Cr100 |
There are ten 145kg capacity vertical launch missile silos mounted in the chassis deck. Some additions missile could be carried in the cargo space but would require three crew members to reload the 145kg missiles.
- There is a operator guided on-board guidance package for these missiles with a maser command link. A massive 30cm HEAP 59 warhead, is used for the missiles. The missiles are available in long range and +10DM hyper velocity interceptor variants. Ten hyper-velocity HEAP 59 operator guided missiles with a +3 to hit DM, maser command link are included in the purchase price..
| Type: | Guidance | Ranges | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| HEAP 59 | Homing | 22km/12km +10DM | Cr. 564 |
| HEAP 59 | Target Designated | 22km/12km +10DM | Cr. 464 |
| HEAP +8 | IR Follow-Up | 22km/12km +10DM | Cr. 664 |

History & Background (Dossier)
The mobile HQ for each elite rebel marine commando section they are huge maintenance hogs and require three dedicated technicians to keep their electronics, weapons and suspension functional. The ten cellular, vertical launch missile tubes can stop most enemy vehicles. They perform indirect fire support, and point defense coverage during special operation raids. A less well armed Variant B was soon offered to redress some of this designs short-comings. It featured a much larger reinforced suspension, and had excellent cross country mobility despite its bulk and huge mass, and a much lower ground pressure. Without the burden of the 12cm hyper-velocity mass driver, it massed 365.3 tons, with a 9.6 ton/m^2 ground pressure, and required less maintenance as a result. The Variant B only costs Cr 3,570,641.34, but lacks indirect and point defense fire control systems. These vehicles are still in battered service with the rebel forces in the Jelmiri Marches, who struggle against their Jaibok overlords.
