The organization is modeled upon the ancient Terran charity Medecins sans Frontieres (Doctors without Borders).

History & Background (Dossier)

The society maintains a fleet of modified subsidized liners and 1000 ton j-3 freighters outfitted as hospital and relief ships. The Wings have one or two bases in every settled subsector in the Spinward Extents, and these have one or two medical ships on standby alert for emergency response. Several ships are not fixed to a base, however, and are under contract to frontier regions, bring medical care to impoverished or underdeveloped worlds on the fringes of the safe, following a regular schedule. The valuable nature of these missions requires that the society maintains a large security force to protect against hijack or theft.
