A Warrior is a person specializing in combat or warfare, especially within the context of a tribal or clan-based culture or society

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Where a tribal or clan-based culture has specialists in the making of war, the persons that undertake that specialism are Warriors. It becomes their Vocation. The key difference between a Warrior and a Soldier is that the first is a means of gaining glory and, through that, status within the community; the latter is a practical organisation of sophonts for defence.

Warriors can be highly effective fighters, but in the absence of the ritual and social context in which those fights take place, the role of Warrior becomes anachronistic.

History (Dossier)[edit]

The presence of a Warrior caste has often linked those Warriors to the high-status leadership caste. This is not always the case and Droyne are a notable exception.

In some cases, Warriors and Soldiers has existed in parallel - the Warriors becoming the officer corps with the prestige and the Soldiers having a lesser position in society and the military. With the advent of universal education and high-tech weaponry, the role of Warrior becomes replaced/superseded by the more practical Soldier role.
