Background[edit]

Originally from Stockholm, Sweden. Now living in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex of Texas, USA. Mike is role-, boardgame- and miniatures-player since the late-1970's. Bought my first box of LBB's back when working in a game store and have expanded my collection since. Constantly looking for ways to enhance the core mechanics, I have appreciated the Traveller universe since the start. Always looking for new players!

Welcome (2016)[edit]

Thanks Maksim! I'm still learning and hoping that whatever contributions I can make to this great resource will be useful.

Citations (2016)[edit]

Thanks! I'm having a little trouble with citations for JTAS and BoJTAS articles; Loren is listed as author, but really he should be editor and the articles author should be able to be listed. Maybe a new template needs to be created? thx

Hi Mike, please message Thomas on his talk page here: User talk:Tjoneslo
He should be able to help you sort out whatever you need. If for any reason Thomas is unavailable, please message me again and I can help out. I am at CotI too as well as Thomas.

This is a limitation of the Template:InfoboxBook2 currently. The template allows for a comma separated list of the table of contents. Each entry contains an chapter name and a starting page, separated by a colon. But to do this requires the three fields (Author(s), article name, page(s)). The challenge I'm having with this is finding a good set of field separators. Tjoneslo (talk) 21:03, 3 October 2016 (EDT)
So let me work through this. We need to separate the list of authors, the name of the article and the pages in a way the wiki can parse the values to extract the values. We shouldn't use characters found (normally) in article or author names. This would include commas (,), periods (.), colons (:), semi-colons (;), quotes ('), double quotes ("), question marks (?), exclamation marks (!), hyphens (-), and parenthesis. We can't use the wiki formatting characters: vertical bar (|), exclamation point (!), and square brackets ([]). This leaves a number of characters, but they all weird ones like tilde (~), At signs (@), octothorpes (#), dollar signs ($), percents (%), stars (*), and a few others. As a programmer, I don't find the characters odd, but as field separators they make the whole set difficult to read. And difficult to explain to the contributors. Thanks, Thomas. Please let me know if I can assist you in any way.

Thanks guys! Yeah, there are many challenges to this. But what if we added an "editor" field to the template? I don't think it would complicate the formatting too much. Or will it have other consequences?
--Mike Henry (talk) 16:37, 5 October 2016 (EDT)
Adding fields to the underlying cargo table (hence to the template) is a minor pain. If we wanted to add "Editor", we should also add other contributor fields like artists, playtesters, and so on. And we should have an agreed upon list. Tjoneslo (talk) 20:49, 5 October 2016 (EDT)
I think we are better off waiting for the next version of the cargo table to come out unless you are interested in taking this on as a personal project, Mike. I have my hands full with several projects including inputting entire sectors worth of data into the wiki. Updating over two-hundred sources to a new template is not high on my list at this time. I very much agree with your sentiment though. I believe that Thomas has quite a lot on his plate as well. And after the two of us, there are few users as active. Although anyone working on this community project is welcome and appreciated.
