Tynet’s Quiller fill the omnivore/scavenger niche on the plains east of the starport on Gabrael. They are relatively fearless and love the contents of the settler's food-waste bins. They can be a nuisance and their defensive spines can make them potentially dangerous.

Physiology & Ecology[edit]

Native to the plains to the east of Gabrael's Starport, these creatures are between 8 and 12 kg in weight, about 50cm long, sinuous with 6 legs and striped Red and Yellow. They have 6 legs, long spines and eat whatever they can gather. They move in small family groups. They can be dangerous because they can throw their spines up to 2m (backwards) and those spines are barbed and mildly poisonous. Fortunately, they are only used if you attack them or catch them by surprise.

Life Cycle & Reproduction[edit]

These creatures dig burrows and form nests in these - however they are not above borrowing a disused burrow or small cave*. They typically have a litter of 5-8 Quillets that remain underground with the father for 4 weeks before emerging and following the parents about for up to 3 further months.

*Ground Cars can fit their definition of small caves! If you find a Quiller in your vehicle, act with caution. Experts in their safe removal can be found in most areas on Gabrael

Diet & Trophics[edit]

These creatures are omnivorous and will dig for roots or small creatures. They have strong claws for this purpose.

History & Background[edit]

The Tynet’s Quiller was one of the first of Gabrael's larger animals to infiltrate into the settlements of the Colonists. They can chew and scratch their way through the sides of food-waste receptacles given time.

Travellers' Aid Society Advisory[edit]

These creatures are considered eligible for an Amber rating because of their close proximity to housing, fearless nature and mildly poisonous spines.
